Basic Plumbing Tips: Garbage Disposal, Water Heater, Washer and more!

Here is a nice entertaining video that will help home-owners do some proper preventative maintenance. This is key folks. A basic plumbing checkup that you can do yourself can save you a lot of money in the long run. In this video they show you the proper way to use ice and hot water to help clean out a garbage disposal along with a few other cool tips that will really help:

I hope that you found those tips very helpful and please take the opportunity to do just a little work now, to save you big money later. If you need a cheap place to pick up some stainless steel water lines check out ebay or one of your local hardware stores. Also they don’t mention this in the video but your water heater can be drained with a water hose if no drain is available near the water heater. Simply connect the water hose to the bottom spout of the water heater and the water will come flowing through the hose. Be sure to have the other end of the hose somewhere where the water can drain out without flooding your home. If you are lazy(which I know some of you are) you can also do a less effective water heater clean out by turning off the water to your home and simply running the hot water in your sink until there is no more hot water. This will drain the water out as well but won’t do quite as good a job as connecting a simple garden hose. OK, that’s all for today, I’m off to finish installing a pair of walk in shower enclosures for a friend. However, like always, if any of you all out there in cyberspace have any questions regarding this or any of the other tips posted on this blog feel free to leave a comment and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for reading and good luck!
